CorelXARA 2.0 is the latest version of Xara's drawing package for Windows. It incorporates all the extra features of Xara Webster, plus a number of other enhancements.
•PhotoShop plug-ins: CorelXARA 2.0 includes support for PhotoShop-compatible plug-ins. This allows you to do advanced bitmap processing on any bitmaps in your document - including those that you make using 'Create bitmap copy'.
•Animation: CorelXARA 2.0 now has a frame gallery. This is similar in operation to the layer gallery, but instead of building up layers of a picture, you build up frames of an animation. You can control the timing and overlay properties of each individual frame in the animation, and change the order of the frames.
When you've finished your animation, you can preview it in CorelXARA, in a Web browser, or simply export it directly as an animated GIF. There's no need for any messing around in the bitmap gallery anymore - the frame gallery does all you need and is much more powerful.
•Bitmap preview: When exporting to a bitmap - particularly for use in a Web page, it's useful to be able to preview the bitmap before you save, to check that it is an acceptable quality and size. CorelXARA 2.0 offers a full bitmap preview, allowing you to compare two bitmaps side by side at different settings.
You can alter the bits-per-pixel, dithering options, transparency and JPEG quality, and see the effect both on the quality and the file size of the bitmap. Not only that, but at the click of a button you can preview the bitmap in the Web browser of your choice, in a CorelXARA-generated Web page that gives all the information you need, including the estimated download time of the image at various modem speeds.
CorelXARA 2.0 takes the guesswork out of designing great-looking, fast Web pages.
•Image map export: You can export client-side image maps from CorelXARA 2.0, including targeting the URLs to a particular frame. The image map can be saved in a stand-alone file, added to an existing HTML file, used to replace an existing image map in a file and even copied to the clipboard and pasted into an HTML/text editor.
•HTML fragment export: As well as image maps, you can export HTML fragments to embed GIFs, JPEGs and Xara Web files in your Web page. These are copied to the clipboard and can be pasted into your HTML/text editor.
New plasma fill and transparency: there is a new fill and transparency type - a fractal 'plasma' fill.
•ATM fonts on Windows NT: CorelXARA 2.0 supports ATM fonts on Windows NT - this was previously Windows 95 only (as was ATM itself, for that matter).
•Internet-connected galleries: The fonts, fills and clip-art galleries in CorelXARA 2.0 are internet-connected, allowing you to download fonts, fills and clip-art from the Xara Web site directly into the program.
•Customized templates: When you create a new document in CorelXARA 2.0, you can now choose which of a range of templates you'd like it to be based upon. What's more, you can add to this range yourself, creating templates just to suit you.
•Page color change: <Bild: Background cycling>You can change the page color in CorelXARA 2.0 to suit the background of your Web page - very useful for getting your graphics anti-aliasing to the correct color. Not only that, but you can also use a tiled bitmap as a background.
•Import from Web: Just type the URL, and CorelXARA 2.0 will import all the graphics on that web page into a document.
•216-color palette: the 216-color browser-safe palette is built into CorelXARA 2.0, both as an optional set of colors on the color line and as a 'snap to browser colors' button on the color editor. The palette can also be chosen when exporting a GIF file.
•32-bit only: With regret we have to say goodbye to all Windows 3.1 users, because CorelXARA 2.0 is Windows 95 and NT 4-only.
